Full Forum ...I bought a tenor Z and was able to hear it against a Keilwerth SX 90R and 1950's vintage Mark VI- all instruments, including the Z, were played by two pro musicians. The Z in my opinion blew the SX90R and the Mark VI away. The Z is on top for resonance and projection. When it is three hours into a gig, some one requests a tune on the big flute on the stand, and you have had three or four Guinnesses, then tell me how well you can transpose a lead sheet into the key you need to be successful on Alto Sax. Firm but relaxed. Imagine equal pressure coming on all parts of the mouthpiece. Don't push the saxophone up to your teeth. Simply place your top teeth on the top of the mouthpiece. He reveals this info on his DVD - Sound Production for Saxophone. If I had his sound on alto, I wouldn't change it either. I have one in 7* and like it a lot. I think the sound is more complex and colorful than their HR* model, which I had for comparison. The HR* added kind of a buzz on top of everything that I didn’t like. If the Custom Dark feels stuffy to you, you’re probably using the wrong reed.The Supreme comes in seven different finishes. This means that, in the hypothetical two-model system, it wouldn't be possible to buy, say, a new silver-plated Selmer horn without springing for a Supreme. For a tenor, that would mean close to $12k. I think Selmer would want to avoid such a costly constriction of choice..
